Minor sports injuries and chiropractic care
Chiropractors are trained to assess and treat minor sports injuries, such as ankle sprains, rotator cuff injuries, muscle spasms and cramp. Ismail started out as a personal trainer, so rehab and exercise advice are part of your care.
His sports injury assessment looks at how the injured area moves, your strength, and neurological and orthopaedic checks, then he explains what he finds.
What happens at your home visit
Your first visit starts with questions about your injury, your sport, your health and your history. Ismail then carries out a thorough assessment: how you move, your posture, and neurological and orthopaedic checks. He explains what he finds in plain words.
If chiropractic care is right for you, it may include soft tissue work, gentle mobilisation or chiropractic adjustments, kinesiology taping, and a rehab programme to do at home. He explains what he would like to do and why, and only goes ahead with your consent. If you need a different kind of care, he will tell you and suggest you see your GP. See every step of a home visit.
Get medical help first if
Go to an urgent treatment centre or A&E, or call 999 in an emergency, if:
- you heard a snap or a crack when it happened
- you can't put weight on it or move it
- it looks out of shape
- it is numb, cold or changing colour
- you hit your head
What the research says
A 2025 review of 10 trials with 419 people found mobilisation with movement reduced pain and improved ankle movement and balance after ankle sprains.
A 2025 review found that adding mobilisation (the Mulligan technique) to usual care improved pain, function and shoulder movement in rotator cuff problems, compared with usual care alone.
A 2022 analysis of 3 trials with 180 people found manual therapy plus exercise improved pain, ankle movement and leg function more than exercise alone after an ankle sprain.
A review of manual therapy for leg and foot problems found fair evidence for manual therapy in the short-term treatment of ankle inversion sprains (rolling the ankle inwards).
The UK evidence report concluded that manipulation and mobilisation are effective for several arm and leg joint conditions.
